On July 3, 2024, the Government of Vietnam issued Decree 80/2024/ND-CP regulating the direct electricity trading mechanism between renewable energy generators and large electricity consumer. The Decree takes effect immediately from the date of publication, aiming to promote private investment in renewable energy development and eliminate existing obstacles in this field.

On August 10, 2023, the kick-off meeting of the technical assistance project "Assessment of National Readiness and International Experience in the Design of Carbon Trading Platform" was organized within the framework of the Southeast Asia Energy Transition Partnership (ETP). This project is funded by ETP to support the Ministry of Finance, carried out in the given context that Viet Nam made a strong commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 at the 26th United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26).
The Department for Science, Education, Natural Resources, and Environment, under the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) co-organised a final conference on the establishment of green growth action plans in several provinces on August 17-18.
Vietnam is one of the countries being strongly affected by global climate change. In order to demonstrate the determination and political willing in responding to climate change and towards green economic development, the Government of Vietnam has issued policies and strategies on green growth and climate change with medium and long term vision. For instance, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 1393/QD-TTg dated 25th September, 2012 on Approving “National strategy on green growth in the period 2011-2020 and vision to 2050”. In 2016, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 2053/QD-TTg on the Plan for implementation of the Paris Agreement on climate change.
