The Kick-off Workshop to launch tasks in the "Mainstreaming Climate Resilience and Environmental Protection for Secondary Green Cities Development Project" in Hue City, Thua Thien Hue province.

On the morning of December 27, 2024, in Hue City, Thua Thien Hue province, opened a workshop to launch the task "Review, develop GHG inventory methodology and guidance for MRV monitoring; assess low-carbon technology needs and emission reduction potential to propose low-carbon technology portfolio and pilot GHG inventory assessment and MRV in 3 cities (Hue, Ha Giang and Vinh Yen)" within the framework of the "Mainstreaming Climate Resilience and Environmental Protection for Secondary Green Cities Development Project" by the Department of Pollution Control (DPC) - Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) in coordination with the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment (ISPONRE).

Attending the conference were representatives of the Project Management Board including Nguyen Trung Thang, Deputy Director of the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment (ISPONRE)/Deputy Director of the Project Management Board, PhD. Kim Thi Thuy Ngoc; The consulting unit includes: Vuong Xuan Hoa, Deputy Director of the Ecology and Environment Institute (EEI); The research team includes: Associate Professor, PhD. Mai Van Trinh, Director of the Institute of Agricultural Environment, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, PhD. Pham Huy Dong, Deputy Director of the Institute of Industrial Chemistry, Ministry of Industry and Trade, a lot of experts from the Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Climate Change, University of Transport and Communications, Ha Noi University of Science and Technology. Furthermore, there are the presence of representatives of 5 Departments in Thua Thien Hue province: the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Department of Construction, Department of Transport, Department of Industry and Trade; The People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province with representatives from 22 companies that they are on the list of establishments providing information for grassroots-level greenhouse gas inventory according to the Official Dispatch 6037/UBND dated June 19, 2023 of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province.

Firstly, Mr. Nguyen Trung Thang, Deputy Director of the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment/Deputy Director of the Project Management Board introduced the participants of the Management Board project with the presence of departments of Thua Thien Hue province and the content of the Kick-off Workshop program.

Mr. Nguyen Trung Thang, Deputy Director of the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment/Deputy Director of the Project Management Board gave the opening speech at the kick-off workshop..

During the Kick-off Workshop, the Project Management Board and experts presented 4 presentations on project information and mission implementation plans to departments and businesses in Hue city: (i) Introduction about the project and tasks "Review, develop GHG inventory methodology and guidance for MRV monitoring; assess low-carbon technology needs and emission reduction potential to propose low-carbon technology portfolio and pilot GHG inventory assessment and MRV in 3 cities (Hue, Ha Giang, and Vinh Yen)"; (ii) Overview of greenhouse gas inventory methods, guidance on monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV); propose a low carbon list and (iii) Introduce activities and implementation plans for the activity; (iv) Instructions on forms to provide information to relevant parties.

As discussed at the workshop, through the sharing and exchange of the Project Management Board, representatives of Departments and companies were very supportive and agreed for supporting to carry out the task of " Review, develop GHG inventory methodology and guidance for MRV monitoring; assess low-carbon technology needs and emission reduction potential to propose low-carbon technology portfolio and pilot GHG inventory assessment and MRV in 3 cities (Hue, Ha Giang, and Vinh Yen)".
